Volunteer of the year- Dr. joy vroonland

Meet Joy, our Volunteer of the Year.  Joy has been married for 33 years, has 2 adult children, and 2 grandchildren.  Joy holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Texas and proudly served in the Air Force.  Joy has lived a life of adventure living in Washington DC, Japan, Wichita Falls, Allen, Lubbock, and now resides in Mesquite.

Joy has a heart for senior citizens, so volunteering on Friday seemed like a good fit.  Before long, Joy was volunteering two days per week and was instrumental in making changes to operate intake more efficiently for our clients.  Joy implemented the Compassion Card, which greatly improves wait times for our clients.  Joy loves volunteering at a place where "I get to use my heart and my head at the same time".

Joy fell in love with the culture and community here at Sharing Life.  Joy states that "Clients help me too" and "We've become a family".  Joy loves that we live out "Demonstrating Compassion" here, it's not just a slogan.  Joy says "Stopping volunteering would be like not going home for Thanksgiving".

In Joy's free time, you can find her studying a foreign language at the local college, writing devotionals, and planning her next adventure.  Her motto is "Make your life an adventure" and "You only have one life".  Joy's name is so fitting for her.  She exudes joy to all around her.  It is a privilege to name her "Volunteer of the Year".
