As a leader in your church or non-profit, you may think running a food pantry is out of your scope of expertise or capabilities and a bit overwhelming to think about. But before you decide against it, consider these facts:
And those children are sick more often and are more likely to suffer developmental delays. When you add adults to that number, it grows to over 470,000 people!
  • 467,347 individuals live in poverty in Dallas County, with 194,599 of them children. 24,680 of them are senior adults.
  • 982,132 - almost 1 million people or a little over 40% of the population in Dallas County were eligible for government food assistance.
  • More than 853,000 people in North Texas Food Bank’s 13-county service area are food insecure – 1 in 6 people. This means a family may not have a reliable and consistent source of food available to them.
  • Having a job doesn’t mean that you can’t be hungry. Stagnant wages and underemployment are contributing factors to low family incomes.
  • 80 percent of clients choose to purchase inexpensive and often unhealthy foods in order to have something to eat. And there is a strong correlation between hunger and health, with one in three client households affected by diabetes – and 60 percent with unpaid medical bills.
  • 2/3 households that the North Texas Food Bank serves reports having to choose between food and paying medical care.
  • 95 percent of households served by NTFB have an annual household income of $30,000 or less.
  • In North Texas, 1 in 6 food-insecure households is home to a veteran.
Become a Community Distribution Partner.
Hunger and its negative health and educational side effects have risen to epidemic proportions in our communities. With Sharing Life's help, your church can make a difference by becoming a Community Distribution Partner (CDP). And we can show you how to do it in a more efficient and cost-effective way than every before!
By becoming a Community Distribution Partner, you join a food-chain that begins with the North Texas Food Bank and its campaign to provide 92 million meals to hungry people by 2025; includes Sharing Life as a support and food-pickup facility; and ultimately ends with your church providing a wide variety of nutritious food to people in your community in need.

CDPs offer a cost-effective and efficient way for churches like yours to get that food into their hands. The shared cost of the food is significantly less expensive than buying it at a retail outlet. This means that at the current average rate of 12 cents a pound, you can feed many more people for that amount of money than you could by paying retail.
